Marc Reck of Reck Agri Realty – Interview with Gregg Moss of 9 News

On October 23, 2102, I arrived at the 9 News studios 5:20 am for a 5:40 am interview with Gregg Moss.  When I arrived, I met with Gregg.  The lead in would be: During this past summer we experienced one of the worst droughts in history, but land values still appear to be strong, why is that?  Could things change here in Colorado, not only impacting farmers and ranchers, but consumers as well?  The talking points would be: 1.) Why is the real estate market for this kind of land remains strong; 2.)  Large corporations and investors aren’t the ones buying the majority of farms, so who is? 3.)  What impact is the drought having on Colorado’s farm and ranch families? and 4.) What’s the future hold?

Gregg asked if I could stay for the 7:10 am news cast. When we were done visiting, I waited, they led me to the corner of this large room to an elevated table with florescent lights shining in my face, TV monitor to the side, placed an ear piece in my ear, and was instructed to talk to this black box right in front of me.  I watched the morning show via the monitor and a voice came on the ear piece saying 30 seconds, 10 seconds and then Gregg came on and introduced me.  I was told to make sure to say thank you for having me on and before I knew it, Gregg was on to the first question.  He does a great job moving along.   I soon found out I was wanted to talk too much.  I was expecting a 3 to 5 minute interview and before I knew it, it was over at 2 minutes.  It was intimidating to talk to a box and I didn’t think I did a very good job.  When you watch the interview as a viewer, you would think you were sitting right beside Gregg, when in fact you are across the room.

When the interview was over, I left for coffee and a bagel and practiced my answers to the questions.  At the 7:10 am interview I was more comfortable, concise with my answers, and we moved right along. When finished, I was relieved and Gregg stated it is always better the second time.  Unfortunately, the first interview is on their website. When I viewed the first interview, it wasn’t a bad as I thought.  Remember, this is live with no retakes. I am amazed at how many people I know called or emailed saying they watched the early show, were eating breakfast, heard a familiar voice and looked up to see me.  Very positive experience and it was good to convey a positive message for agriculture.

I would like to thank Gregg Moss and 9 News for the opportunity for the interview.
